Oh, the smell of freedom! Spring is here and the sun is making regular appearances. It’s time to dust off the suitcases, fill up the tanks and hit the road. And if there’s one thing we have learned in the past two years regarding travel, it’s that you don’t have to leave the state to enjoy a wonderful holiday. With so many beautiful places across the region to choose from, you can make several day trips or have a few weekend getaways with friends or family, and you don’t need to break the bank to do so.

KONGWAK

Located between Inverloch and Korumburra, this small, picturesque town is the perfect place to visit for a weekend outing. People travel from near and far to shop the diverse range of stalls at the popular Kongwak Market, which is held every Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Once you’re finished at the market, check out The Kongwak Gallery which highlights local artistry or go for a stroll through one of the many walking tracks that weave their way under large gum trees. Finish your day with a barbecue at the local park.

COAL CREEK

Walking into Coal Creek is like stepping back in time. The small, recreated town near Korumburra is a great attraction for families who enjoy history and relaxation. The Coal Creek Community Park and Museum features original and replica buildings, showcasing what life was like for miners and their families from 1870 to 1920. Events, functions, and festivals are often held at Coal Creek throughout the year. Guests can also enjoy a walk by the lake, a picnic in the park or delicious food and coffee at the onsite restaurant

LOCH

A short distance from the South Gippsland Highway is the quaint village of Loch. With its range of unique stores, art galleries, cafes, outdoor activities, and fine dining restaurants, it’s easy to see why the historic town has become a prime pick for daytrips. It’s home to the Loch Village Food and Wine Festival, Loch Village Antique Fair, and the Loch Village Garden Festival- all attracting large crowds from across the state.

CHURCHILL ISLAND

Churchill Island in beautiful Western Port is a peaceful spot for those wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are farming activities that take you back to life as a pioneer in the 1800s, heritage homes to view, walking trails to trek and a café serving up a satisfying farmhouse breakfast amongst other yummy delights. Churchill Island is also home to a popular market and live music events throughout Summer
